Walnut and Brass Foldover Dining Table, Stamped "G.Jacob"

ca. 1775
From the workshop of the widely known and respected French menuisier, Georges Jacob, b.1739-d.1814, this fold over table with visible brass hinges can be used as a demilune table, a round table, or when extended, into a spherocylindrical shape, 18th century. Unique in design this table has an anchor side and a lower frame that allows the remaining six (out of a total of ten) legs to be extended to the other end of the table. Each leg retains its original large wheeled and working brass caster. Alterations to the table include the addition of 2" in height at the top of each leg in an ebonized walnut extension and 12 leaves of equal size made of antique kiln dried walnut lumber. Photos show the table as demilune, round, with 6 leaves, and with the total of 12 leaves. With 6 leaves the length of the table is 133" or 11 feet. Apron height is 24.5" at anchor end.
