exhibiting characteristics of the Baroque sense of drama and a fondness for the exotic exemplified by the pagoda shaped feet, the chair was previously one of a large set, the legs elaborately carved to resemble naturalistic branches, the ends above the feet with carved leaves, having a curved x-from stretcher centering a figurative carving of the Sun King, Louis XIV, retaining antique velvet upholstery and metal thread trim. In excellent condition and structurally sound, the gilding faded in some areas, signs of over paint at rear lower seat back under upholstery, retaining antique upholstery, trim, and horsehair, some various worming.
