Beautifully painted, the shepherd taking rest at dusk upon the parapets of a Roman wall with Saint Peter's Basilica in the left background, he wears a fur vest, red shirt, leather breeches and leather sandals, holding a walking staff with a turned walnut water bottle at his waist, in period ebonized frame with interior gold liner. Relined, small patches to reverse, minor inpainting.
